Functions and Features Information

Automatic Gain Control (AGC)

Automatic Gain Control is a function that automatically regulates signal strength for an appropriate level of display and recording. In camcorders, the AGC automatically adjusts the sensitivity (in terms of lighting) of the sensor to reproduce a balanced image, depending on the lighting conditions of the installation. It is especially useful in cameras that work in low light. The most common gain values range from x4 to x10 (the higher the gain, the better the camera).

Common Exchange Format (CIF)

The Common Intermediate Format (CIF) is a format that seeks the compatibility of the various digital video formats. A standard format that is used by any H.261 encoder. Its aim is to offer a reduced common video format for encoders. It is also known as Full CIF or FCIF to differentiate it from Quarter CIF or QCIF.

NTSC and PAL standards

NTSC is the predominant analog video standard in North America (National Television Systems Committee). PAL is the predominant analog video standard in Europe (Phase Alternation Line). Both standards come from the television industry. NTSC has a resolution of 480 horizontal lines and a refresh rate of 60 interlaced fields per second (or 30 full images per second). PAL has a resolution of 576 horizontal lines and a refresh rate of 50 interlaced fields per second (or 25 full images per second). The total amount of information per second is the same in both standards. When analog video is digitized, the maximum number of pixels that can be created will be based on the number of TV lines available to be digitized. In NTSC, the maximum size of scanned images is 720x480 pixels. In PAL, the size is 720 × 576 pixels (D1). The most commonly used resolution is 4CIF 704 × 576 PAL / 704 × 480 NTSC.

Wide dynamic range (WDR / DWDR)

It is a function included in some cameras that allows you to process different lighting conditions. Both systems perform the measurement, compensation and light adjustment functions on the image to be recorded. The main difference is that in the case of the WDR it performs these operations through a filter incorporated into the camera's structure, while the DWDR does it digitally on the image without the need for a filter.

Digital Noise Reduction (DNR)

It is a function that reduces the so-called image noise. If you have taken a photo or recorded images with a security camera in the dark without flash or focus, you will have noticed that the image is very grainy, technically this is called noise, that is, there has been interference in the signal. DNR is key to achieving clearer images. The image sensor on the CCD eliminates the grainy effect of images and they are much richer, an essential factor in identifying movements or objects on the screen.

Digital Multidimensional Noise Suppression (3D-DNR)

In video recordings at night or in low light conditions, the signal and noise mix and considerably deteriorate the image quality. The 3D-DNR Digital Multidimensional Noise Suppression has been developed for these situations, which not only reduces image noise but also corrects errors produced during color mixing. To do this, the 3D-DNR function compares one image with the next and eliminates even the smallest image dots, which are not present in the original image.

H.261

H.261 is the standard encoder for video compression. It is the first member of the H.26x family of video encoding standards and was the first video codec that was useful in practical terms. H.261 was originally designed for transmission over ISDN lines where the data rates are multiples of 64 kbit / s. The encoding algorithm was designed to be capable of operating at video bit rates between 40 kbit / s and 2 Mbit / s. In fact, all subsequent international video encoding standards (MPEG-1 Part 2, H.262 / MPEG-2 Part 2, H.263, MPEG-4 Part 2, H.264 / MPEG-4 Part 10, and HEVC) have been closely based on the H.261 design. Furthermore, the methods used by the H.261 development committee to jointly develop the standard have maintained the basic operational process for subsequent standardization work in the field. It was developed by the CCITT Specialists of the XV Study Group on Coding for Visual Telephony (which later became part of ITU-T SG16).

Autoiris

It is the function incorporated in some cameras that automatically adjusts the lens aperture according to the light changes in the environment. Adjusting the lens is done by the diaphragm, which in the human eye.
