Video Surveillance Systems in Maine
Maine is the furthest most northeastern state in the United States. The current estimated population is 1,330,089. The first European settlement in the region that is now Maine was in 1604 by French explorers. The French named the area Acadia. Some temporary settlements were established by English settlers a short time later but the French dominated the region until the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The dominantly French inhabited areas were organized as part of Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia while the English territory became part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Due to Maine’s far distance from Massachusetts, the growing population voted for secession from the Colony. In 1820 Maine was admitted as the 23rd state. Logging was the dominant industry in the state at the time and Maine was one of the largest lumber providers in the country. The Industrial Revolution helped the lumber industry to grow and also brought the advent of new industries such as shipbuilding and textile mills. Today lumber and wood products remain the largest export from the state. Other outputs include dairy, lobster, fish and Navy ships. Outdoor recreation is the largest draw for tourists who come to Maine to visit its many national parks and beautiful coastline. The state is also known for its seafood, especially lobster and clams.
