Video Surveillance Systems in Michigan

Michigan is a state in the Midwest United States. The current estimated population is 9,895,622 making it one of the ten most populous states. The capital is Lansing and the most populous city is Detroit. The state sits in the Great Lakes region and is surrounded by four of the Great Lakes: Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Superior and Lake Erie. Many battles were fought over the Michigan Territory in the War of 1812 but the land was eventually ceded to the US and Michigan was admitted to the Union in 1837. With the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 a large influx of settlers and merchants came to Michigan. The state provided the most lumber in the nation as well as grain, iron and copper. Early in the 20th century Michigan became the home of the automotive industry. Henry Ford developed the moving assembly line in Highland Park. The booming automotive industry attracted people from across the US and Europe looking for work and the state population became very diverse. The state is also a large producer of furniture and aviation systems. After the financial crisis of 2008, two of Michigan’s biggest automotive companies, GM and Chrysler, filed for Chapter 11 and after a highly publicized bailout by the federal government they have begun to turn things around and in 2010 reported significant increases in profits. Michigan has the second most diverse agricultural industry, behind California. Tourism is also a large part of Michigan’s economy with millions of tourists visiting the state each year. Popular attractions include the Henry Ford Museum, hunting and fishing in the forests and boating and sunbathing on the beaches along Lake Michigan. Students are also drawn to the state to attend the universities which include seven research universities and Michigan State University.

The overall crime rate for Michigan is about the same as the national average. The rate of violent crime in the state is a bit above the national average and property crime is about the same as the national average. Four Michigan cities are on the list of the 100 most dangerous cities in the US: Inkster, Detroit, Saginaw and Flint. Detroit was once considered the most dangerous city in the country but crime rates have been on a downturn in recent years and the city has dropped to the 6th most dangerous city in the country. Both Saginaw and Flint have higher crime rates than Detroit. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Midland, Michigan is considered one of the safest cities in the country. Residents of Michigan can help to lower the states crime rates by protecting properties with surveillance systems. These systems can be used to protect high profile businesses, museums, offices and private residences. Properties with surveillance systems are known to have lower crime rates than those without. There are many systems that can fit any security need.
