Video Surveillance Systems in North Carolina

North Carolina is a southern state in the United States. It lies along the Atlantic Ocean and also has many mountains including Mount Mitchell, the highest point in the Eastern US. It was one of the original 13 colonies and was the 12th state admitted to the union in 1789. North Carolina became an important exporter of cotton and tobacco and many crops were produced on large plantations that used slave labor. In 1861 North Carolina became the last of the confederate states to secede from the Union during the Civil War. After the war, racial tensions remained high and many Jim Crow laws began being imposed across the southern states including North Carolina. The Civil War left North Carolina impoverished, although tobacco and cotton remained their biggest exports. World War II brought an economic boom to the state and many universities and centers for scientific and technical research opened. The North Carolina economy is much more diverse now with significant growth in the technology, finance, research and agricultural industries. In 2010 Forbes named the state one of the best states for business. There are 17 public universities in North Carolina, with the biggest being North Carolina State University, as well as many private universities. Tourists are attracted to the many art and historic museums throughout the state. The historic Biltmore Estate, the largest privately owned house in the US, is also a popular tourist attraction as is the surrounding Appalachian Mountains. The mountains offer skiing, fishing, hunting and camping. Tourists can also visit the beaches along the Carolina coast for swimming, boating and visiting lighthouses.

Crime in North Carolina is about the same as the national average. Violent crime rates are slightly below the national average and property crime rates are above the national average. Only one North Carolina city made it on list of most dangerous cities in the US, Rocky Mount. One city also made it onto the list of safest cities, Holly Springs. Overall the state’s crime rate is about average and there is a national trend of decreasing crime rates. Property crime is more common and includes crimes such as burglary, theft and vandalism. Residents across the state can protect their property from these crimes by installing surveillance systems. These systems can be used to protect private residences, offices, school campuses, museums and many other locations. Surveillance systems are known to deter crime and help to lower crime rates. Residents of North Carolina can help keep crime rates low and attract new visitors to the state by protecting property with surveillance systems.
