Video Surveillance Systems in Arizona

Arizona is a state in the southwest United States. It was the last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union in 1912. The current estimated population is 6,626,624 and the capital and most populous city is Phoenix. The area was inhabited by Native American Tribes until 1539 when Spanish explorers came to the region. The area remained under Spanish rule until 1821 when Mexico won its independence from Spain and Arizona became part of Alta California. The land was ceded to the US after the Mexican-American War in 1847. During this time cotton farming and copper mining were Arizona’s biggest industries. When the Great Depression hit these industries suffered greatly. Tourism became a more prominent industry in the state with the invention of air conditioning and the establishment of dude ranches and upscale hotels. Today tourism remains an important industry as does healthcare, government and transportation. Most of Arizona’s land is open space and publicly owned. The Grand Canyon is located in Northern Arizona and attracts many visitors each year as does Red Rock State Park and Meteor Crater among many other state parks. There are three public universities in the state and 23 private universities. There are four professional sports teams in Arizona, Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Coyotes. Golf is also an important sport to the state as there are many golf courses.

The overall crime rate for the state of Arizona is slightly higher than the national average. Violent crime occurs at a rate that is about the same as the national average while property crime is above the national average. The chance of becoming a victim of violent crime is 1 in 233 and of property crime is 1 in 28. In 2008 there were a total of 29,059 reported violent crimes and 278,920 reported property crimes. No Arizona cities are considered to be amongst the most dangerous in the nation. However, there is one Arizona city, Florence, that is considered to be amongst the safest in the nation. Like most states, property crime is the biggest issue. Residents of Arizona can help combat property crime rates by monitoring their property with surveillance systems. Properties with surveillance systems are known to experience less crime than those without. Surveillance systems can be used to monitor private residences, offices, retailers and museums among many other locations.
